We visited the Amazon rainforest for a first hand look at the detrimental effects of deforestation. We decide to take action after seeing land stripped of 500 year old iron wood trees in exchange for soybeans and cheap lumber. In partnership with Modo Yoga NYC and the naturalist Paul Rosolie, we created the soical venture called Junglekeepers, which allows advocates to donate for Amazon land preservation. We established Junglekeepers as a leading resource in protecting the Madre de Dios region by utilizing Modo Yoga's 75 locations as fundraising partners for advocates, and collaborating with international environmentalist foundations such as The David Suzuki Foundation.

Our Approach

Development in the Madre de Dios region has threatened indigenous populations, their traditions, wildlife, and the ecosystem. Seeing this destruction first hand sparked our action. Through collaborative efforts with friends who share our point of view, we were able to initiate a project in an area with limited access to communication. We employed purposeful design and fundraising action in order to allow individuals to participate and protect this precious area from outside interference.

The Results

We raised more than $250,000 in funds towards keeping the Amazon pristine, built a local biodiversity station, establieshed ongoing fundraising, and fostered university relationships with a student exchange component. Fostering meaningful relationships with Paul Rosolie and Modo Yoga increased Junglekeeper's impact, and allowed the project to gain international visibility on the Discovery Channel.
